Washington County Fair

This week is the county fair here in Abingdon. We've actually never been before, but I'm hoping to check it out this year. Looks like they have lots of fun activities for kids: a petting zoo, lawn mower races, kids day circus, and of course carnival rides. There's a full schedule on their website.

MOPS Carnival Kick-off and Registration

It's a playdate for Moms!
MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers and we are a fun, inspiring and encouraging group of Moms that meet to eat and socialize without interruptions, do a craft with sharp scissors and recharge our batteries while our children are cared for in a loving environment around the corner and out of ear shot!

Meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of each month from 9:15am - 12:00pm. Enjoy breakfast while listening to informative speakers on topics that matter to you. Childacre and a snack are provided for children ages birth to five.

This year's carnival kick-off will feature games, crafts, free snacks, balloon animals, face painting, car seat checks by the state police, identification kits courtesy of Sheriff Newman's office & more!

Busy Mom's Guide

For those of you that know Christina Moore I'm sure you've already checked out her new website. If you don't know her and didn't get an email introducing you to the Busy Mom's Guide I'm going to fill you in. This is an awesome resource for Local Events and puts this little blog of mine to shame. Be sure to check out the Kids Eat Free section that lists local restaurants and which nights they offer free or really cheap kids meals.

Wings and Wheels

There is an airplane and auto show at Virigina Higlands Airport here in Abingdon next Saturday, July 26th from 10am -4pm. Jacob is crazy about airplanes so we are going to go check it out for sure. I'm not sure about how much it costs, but the proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Childrens programs so it's a good cause.

Our Favorite Summertime Treat

We love to go get snocones from SnoBiz in Bristol. They are open daily from 2pm-10pm. It's a little purple hut across from Sonic on the other side of the interstate from all the other stuff at Exit 7. If you've never tried SnoBiz, the flavors I recommend are Tiger's Blood (a combo of Strawberry and Pina Colada) or the Dreamscile is Jacob's favorite. Beware of the Blue Raspberry! Jacob tried that one once and his mouth and lips were blue for the rest of the day.

Summer Reading Program at the Library

Just wanted to remind you about the Public Library's Summer Reading Program that starts next week. You can sign up now at the library and get a free bag to carry all the books you check out for your kids.

Events are on Thursdays at 2:00pm at the Main Branch in Abingdon. Jacob is napping then so I'm planning on going to the Mendota Branch on Wednesdays at 10:30am which is just up Highway 19 a few miles.

The week of June 9th the event is the Annual Kickoff with lots of creative activities and crafts.

Storytime is on Mondays at 11:00am at the Main Branch in Abingdon starting June 16th.

Be sure to pick up some reading logs and turn them back in each week during a library activity to enter your kids in the weekly drawing for a free bike.
